The commonly English word Agape' actually comes from
the Greek word AJGAVPH (sorry, my browser doesn't do the Greek
Letters) which translates roughly to our word LOVE. There are many
different usages for our English word love. There are various words
in most lanuages for love. Most differ between the levels and kinds
of love. Modern Christians translate Agape' as "God's prefect love".
This is a very loose translation at best. They point to the easly
recogized scripture:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16 - 17 (KJV) A closer examination of the Greek Word AJGAVPH (Strongs Exhausive number 26) is not the same as used in the above verse, which is actually AGAPAO (Strongs number 25). This word translates "to love dearly". This implies a great closeness. That can be very mind-boggling, that God would love us that much! In fact we are told that: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6 (KJV) The word Agape' (AGAPAO) actually translates as "great affection" This word can be shown as the closeness of the Christian Commmunity (or the church universal). A bible example of this would be: By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 13:35 (KJV) This close knit community of believers is very special, too. If you are a Christian and don't feel this closeness, you might not be where God wants you to be. :-( If you have no idea about what I am talking about, that is ok because: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:8 (KJV) Please note: God doesn't love, He is love! This implies that without God there is no love. (If you don't believe this, look around at this world.) We have declared God dead and are suffering the results. In order to experience love, we must first experience God. If you want to learn more Click Here
